No Fry Sabudana Vada | Tapioca Fritters | No onion No Garlic

Sabudana Vadas are the Tapioca pearl fritters and are made by soaking the tapioca overnight and mixed together with boiled potatoes along with the spices and are usually deep fried until golden brown. They are crispy outside and soft inside. It is served as a tea time snack with cilantro mint chutney. I have used appe pan to make these vadas which helps save lot of oil. I have made these vadas peanut-free(allergies).

Ingredients:
  1. .......2 medium size boiled potatoes
  2. .......1 cup soaked Sabudana/Tapioca pearls
  3. ........1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  4. ........1 green chili finely chopped (optional)
  5. .........1 tsp cumin seeds/jeera
  6. .........Salt to taste
  7. .........1 tsp grated ginger
  8. .........2 tbsp water

Method:
  • Mash and peel the potatoes.
  • Add the tapioca pearls, chopped cilantro, green chilies , cumin seeds, salt and ginger and mix well them until well combined.
  • Add water little at a time and knead the mixture into a dough.

  • Once the mixture forms into a smooth dough, let it rest for 10 mins.
  • Divide the dough into 14-15 equal portions. Form them into 1 inch size balls.

  • Heat appe pan on medium high, add a tsp of oil in each mould. Gently drop the ball in the moulds and fry it until golden brown.

  • Keep tossing and turning the ball in the mould so that it is fried on all sides.

  • Remove the sabudana vadas on a paper towel and serve them with your favorite Cilantro chutney or tomato ketchup.

Notes:
  • You can add 1/4 cup of coarsely crushed peanuts to the vadas.
  • You can deep fry these vadas if you like.
