Six Breakfast Smoothies | Vegan

Smoothies are very refreshing, healthy and delicious. It takes 5 minutes to make a smoothie and is perfect for a morning breakfast, on the go. It’s packed with calcium, antioxidants, potassium and keep you energetic. It creates the perfect combination of protein, fat, and carbohydrates to keep you satisfied until your next meal.

This is perfect way to incorporate fruits and vegetables in your diet. All you need to do is blend all ingredients together and there you have it ... An amazing combination of fruits, veggies and nutritious liquid like milk or fruit juice or just water.  If you do not have frozen fruits or veggies on hand, just toss fresh produce in the freezer for an hour before you make smoothie. Frozen fruits give the smoothie an amazing creamy texture to it.

I make fruit smoothies at least twice in a week – they’re delicious, healthy and the perfect way to use up all those old wrinkly fruits hanging out in the fridge.

Which ingredients can I use to make smoothies?

Seasonal fruits and veggies:
You can experiment with various fruit and veggies  you have in your refrigerator. During summer, you can take the advantage of all the sweet and delicious fruits that are available in the stores. Mangoes are my personal favorite. Cherries, Navel oranges, peaches, watermelon, pineapple, plum, papaya, nectarine are all other optional for summer smoothies. Spinach, avocados, carrots are good options for veggie smoothie.

During fall and winter, you can use apples, bananas, sweet potatoes, yams, pumpkins, kale and squash. Bananas can be found all year around in stores. So I always have them on my grocery shopping list. The liquid base like milk or water used in the smoothie can be warmed up a bit if you don’t want a chilled smoothie in the winter.

Liquids:

You can use yogurt- plain or flavored, regular or greek yogurt,   silken tofu, oat milk, hemp milk, dairy milk or any non dairy milk, freshly squeezed juices or store bought ones, coconut water or regular water to liquify your smoothie. You can also use iced tea or coffee.

Spices:

You may add additional spices like ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, pumpkin spice, vanilla, chocolate syrup or even your brewed coffee. Flavor are endless if you are ready to experiment.

Topping:

My favorite topping are the ingredients itself. If I make spinach smoothie, I would go for some spinach leaves on top. You can use seeds like chia seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds,  nuts like walnuts, almonds, pistachios etc, maraschino cherries or dust of cocoa powder or chocolate shavings on top.

Making your smoothie a Superfood:

Spirulina is high in protein, iron, and B vitamins, and contains other nutrients like beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, and selenium.

Chia Seeds can effectively improve blood flow, lower cholesterol, and prevent high blood pressure.
