Baked bitter gourd chips | Karela chips | Hagalkaayi Chips
As a kid, I never liked bitter gourd as my mom made it frequently for my dad. It was only after I started making various recipes myself for my family , I fell in love with it. Bitter gourd is a vegetable which is naturally bitter in taste and helps in maintaining blood sugar levels, boosts your immune system and helps in losing body weight.
These chips are baked in the oven with less oil so you can satisfy your craving without any guilt. Here is an easy and quick recipe for the chips.
Ingredients:
2 medium sized bitter gourds
1 tsp Red Chili powder
2 tbsp Gram Flour/ Besan
1/4 tsp Cumin powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsp Oil
Preparation :
- Preheat oven at 400F.
- Wash the bitter gourd and cut them into even sized rings (approx 1/8th inch)
- Remove the seeds. Add them in a mixing bowl, add gram flour, red chili powder, salt and oil.
- Mix them together and make sure the bitter gourd rings are thinly coated with the gram flour batter. Let it sit for 10 mins.
- Lay the rings on the greased cookie sheet tray separate from each other.
- Bake them for 10-12 mins Or until they start to get brown.
- Flip the rings on the sheet tray and turn off the oven and let them bake on the other side for another 2-3 minutes.
- Let them cool completely and store them in an air tight container up to two days.
Tips:
- Do not add water to the batter.
- Keep a eye on the rings when in oven after 10 mins. They might burn quickly.
