Ultimate Pizza Dough

I have used this recipe several times and did not fail once. I have used my stand mixer (with dough hook attached) for kneading the pizza dough. But you can knead the dough with your hands too using the same procedure. You can make thin crust or regular crust pizza with this dough.

Flour: Use all purpose flour or bread flour for better results. You can also use whole wheat bread flour. Using regular whole wheat flour yields a denser crust. You can use 1:1 whole wheat flour and All purpose flour for this recipe.

Liquid: I always use warm water to knead the dough. You can use warm milk if you are making Eggless Cinnamon Buns/Rolls rolls to get a richer taste.

Herbs: You can use dried herbs if you are making herbed pizza crust or Onion Masala Buns (check recipe for changes).

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup warm water

2 1/4 Tsp packet active-dry yeast

1/2 tSp granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons olive oil

3 cups all purpose flour

Step 1. Combine yeast, warm water and sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Let this year mixture sit for about 10 mins or until the Yeast is activated. Below is the picture of inactive yeast and activated yeast.

The activated yeast will more or less look like this 👇

If the yeast doesn’t activate or become frothy like this, discard the mixture and restart the process using different pack of yeast.

In a mixing bowl, sift flour. Add salt and mix.

Add in the yeast mixture to the flour. You can go ahead and herbs now if you plan to.

Knead the flour into a soft dough. Kneading takes about 12-15 minutes.

Add olive oil at this point. Continue kneading for another 2-3 minutes until you get a soft pliable dough. You can use a spatula or a poon to scrape off the dough from the bowl and use your hands to continue kneading further.

Add a little bit oil on the dough to prevent the formation of the crust on the top.  Cover the dough with a cling wrap and let it sit for about one and half hours or until double the size.

This is the confirmation that your dough has risen well and yeast has done it’s job well. 👇

Your pizza dough is ready. The dough takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to rise. I use nonstick pizza pan to make 1 thicker crust of 12” or 2 thin crust 10-12” pizzas, or 4-6 small personal sized pizzas.

When your dough is ready, you can make:

Cinnamon buns

Onion Masala buns

 Homemade Veggie Pizza
